well the knobs have been giving us fits since we moved in a month ago. You have to push down really hard to get the water on. I guess they just dont fit. The faucet is dripping water like it always has. I dont want to call a plumber. Could it just be the faucet and not the plumbing part of it?

Did this happen all of a sudden, or has it been slowing down for a while? What are the pipes made of? How old are the pipes? Has any work recently been done on the plumbing system?

Try removing the part at the very end of the faucet. It should screw off. Clean out any junk inside it. There will be at least some.

While it is off, try the water. Be careful, there could be a lot of it.

Is there water with the end part off? If not, what is the outside temperature now and what was it last night? Are these pipes in an outside wall? Any insulation?

Post more info so we can help you more.

If your faucet is old, then it could be two things:
1) The seat washer(s) are stuck and when the faucet opens, they are still seated and therefore won't let the water flow. (Simple fix: Get replacement washers at the hardware or home repair store; turn the water off to the house or that faucet; remove the screws holding the handles on and then unscrew the stem which the handles fasten to; replace the washers and reassemble)

2) The filter screen which is located on the end of the faucet (right where the water comes out) is completely clogged.
(Also a simple fix: You'll notice that the end of the faucet looks like it has a fitting on it - it does. Unscrew this fitting and there is a screen in it. Either replace it or replace the whole fitting if you can't get it out)

If the faucet is new, then there is possibly a cutoff for each water inlet (hot and cold) - trace the lines down from under the sink and even under the house if you have to and make sure that the cutoffs are open; if not then open them. If there are no cutoffs, then keep following the line until you reach where it enters the house or gets to your well pump (or street if you're on city water). If you still don't find a cutoff then you have a clog in your lines. You'll have to start cutting the lines to see where the clog is - start with the elbows and tees closest to the faucet and work your way towards the well or street. You won't need to go any further than the next tee where another faucet branches off that works. Since the others work, then you know it isn't clogged beyond that.

If none of this works, then call a plumber -- you have a serious issue.

The chilly water grant out of your kitchen sink faucet will consistently be direct from the incoming considerable water pipe. from time to time there is an in-line filter out suited to do away with lime and stuff while you're in a "stressful water" area. apart from that filter out the water is as sparkling and sparkling because of the fact the business enterprise supplies you. it is going to come out of the spout at very intense rigidity, often lots greater than the nice and comfortable water. till those days it exchange into elementary for all of the chilly faucets to be fed at once from the incoming water mains, so as that the chilly water rigidity exchange into greater than the adjoining warm faucet. in greater cutting-edge properties it is elementary for the chilly water grant to different (non-kitchen), basins and bathtub tubs to be fed from a storage tank interior the roof. it fairly is to average the rigidity and make it the comparable as that which comes from the nice and comfortable water faucets. If the storage tank is sparkling and has no rust, or lifeless birds or rats floating in it, then the water must be purely as risk-free to drink because of the fact the sparkling water that comes out of the kitchen faucet. it ought to flavor slightly "flat" and unexciting yet won't kill you. examine the water rigidity (velocity of bypass) between your countless chilly faucets to verify which variety of plumbing you have.
