Some veggies may attract creatures: caterpillars, or termites, or fireants. Is it okay to accomodate infestations?

I know you can't try to grow species from abroad: the government will confiscate, destroy, (and even publish that you've been a naughty gardener).
Another thing: is it safe to handle the soil with your bare hands? To me it seems kind of hazardous. I am not a gardener myself, or a farmer. I had some "wild" grapes growing from seeds discarded on the yard. Grapes are very tough...lol

I garden quite a bit. I wear gloves religiously now. Started getting little sores on my face. Doc. said may be from soil and to keep hands away from face when mucking about out there.

Of course people plant veg and fruits at will. I am not certain I understand your question.

Some exotic seeds may be bought from a reputable seed company. They are licensed to import these from other countries then grow them and harvest the seeds to sell.

Most of the popular garden type plants are from elsewhere.

In the U.S. the only law I can imagine might be one that says you can't plant within 5 or 10 feet of your property line. Check with your local authorities or look at the plat of your property deed to see what the easements are. Usually the only time this would be inforced would be in reference to fruit trees that might damage a fence or shade a neighbor's yard.

Hazards might be that you could poison yourself using inorganic pesticides. If you use manure for fertilizer, make sure it is fully composted to kill off dangerous bacteria. Check out a book on organic gardening from your library.

So you have never played in the dirt? You have never grown your own food? Your are deprived. Grow any seeds you can find. There is no law against growing vegetables or fruit. Its your God given right to feed yourself. If the bugs come, let them have some of the food. They are there for a reason. Healthy plants can defend themselves against bugs. Insects are part of the chain of life, don't be too harsh with them. I wouldn't suggest letting them live inside with you but don't discourage them from eating some of your food either.

It varies by state, but must places have a vegetable garden safety council and you need to get approval from them. There is a great risk in cauliflower and bok choy if it is not contained properly... it can infest the ground water and cause excessive gas in the general public. I suggest calling your state representative and asking about the possibility of cherry tomato anemia where you live and how eggplant can lead to the crabs.

Depends on where they are. If they own the place they live, in the US they can plant any type of fruit or veggie.

If they rent, they can grow veggies ina garden tub or large planter.
I grow herbs as long as I can, year round.

No federal, state or city laws in the US, but neigborhood associations can be real jerks about it. Of course that all depends on what you're growing.... you may want to look into hydroponics... lol.
