Did MLK work in my bank? So why is the bank closed?

Did MLK deliver me my mail? No? So why is there no mail today?

Did MLK free us from oppression down at the DMV? No? Strange, it was closed today too.

I have a dream...that one day....the government will realize that most of the rest of us don't get every conceivable holiday off, and actually work as much for their paychecks as the rest of us in the private sector do.

Thoughts?

To Chester:

1. Washington is considered the founder of this country, which IMHO is worthy of a holiday.
2. Lincoln's b-day is, in my opinion, another black appeasement holiday. (Isn't it usually lumped into 'presidants day')
3. Columbus day is another one like MLK day. It's a government worker union day off.

Sicilia: It's all about appeasement. The federal government wants to be "PC" officially, but I think in the case of most areas, the g'ment unions use it as an excuse to stay home.

Remember, it's NOT OK to have pride in who you are or your heritage UNLESS you are a minority.

I like the 'white history month' idea. Can't you see that happening anytime soon?

Oh wait, that would be racist....

I was just thinking the same thing. MLK was an ACTIVIST not a sitting President, nor did he discover America! This is the most ridiculous holiday. Can't go to the bank, get the mail, or send my kids to school, just ruined my day! But what about black history month in February? Do we have white history month? Native American month? Italian immigrant month? No, so what the hell is so special about MLK that he gets a whole day to himself? Could someone enlighten me?

i will think of you're relatively asking this question out of lack of understanding and not racism. MLK day is a federal holiday this potential that anyone federal, state and native government workers besides as some inner maximum workers get it off. inner maximum businesses dont inevitably ought to take off federal holiday journeys and a few do not. additionally many schools additionally get it off regardless of the makeup of the community inhabitants. i've got self belief that arizona is the only state that doesnt comprehend MLK day.

I would read the link below, especially the section on Columbus and MLK day.

By the way, it is interesting that three fourths of your question pertain to bank, mail, or paychecks. I wonder if someone is jittery about having to wait an extra day for their W-2 since the mail isn't delivered on January 15th.

Because it is a FEDERAL holiday celebrating the birth of a man who changed our country for the better.

MLK didn't free me from oppression at the DMV because not only was I born way after he was murdered, but because I'm white. However, many minorities were prevented from voting, buying houses and living normal lives. Hopefully, some of that has changed, and continues to do so.

i can't give you the exact reason why it's a holiday but mostly private companies can choose if they give they day off. that applies for the bank. now the mail and dmv are government and they get the holiday by the law of california and choice given by the government.

What Martin Luther King did do was Non Violent Protest that help to right the wrongs that USA had been doing to Humans for 300 years. I can respect the man for that and yes, I think every True American should take note of how one man can change a Nation for the better.

did george washington work in my bank?

did abe lincoln deliver me my mail?

did christoper columbus free us from oppression at the DMV?

we get holidays in their names, too. do you complain about them, too? instead of b!tching about it here, write a letter to your congressman. it'll likely do way more good.

**EDIT**

thanks for your reply... now, hopefully you'll put pen to paper and actually DO something about your opinions instead of just complaining online. good luck.

and to "sicilia"... if you think that columbus "discovered" this country... well, then no one is going to be able to "enlighten" you about anything, bub. yikes. however, i believe that he was italian, so maybe that can be your own little "italian immigrant day". see how easy it is to make a perceived negative into a positive?

I think EVERYONE deserves his holiday. Its discrimatory to only give it to some people which is exactly what he was fighting against. Stupid corporations have contaminated another good thing.
