I live in a studio apartment (very small one room) and my electric bill is 40-45 dollars a month!! I don't keep lights on, I keep my shades closed, all that so I have no idea why it would be so high--I'm in college so at classes a lot as well, my friends barely pay that much and they live with other people. The highest amounts are: Generation Services, Fuel Factor, Distribution Services, if that matters at all but I have no clue what those are.

Make sure your not leaving your computer on all day and night. That is high for a one room apartment. Can you tell if the hall lights are being placed on your bill. But sometimes, if you read your bill, you pay a transfer charge which is the same for everyone, then you pay a usage charge. So just the transfer charge might be expensive and is basically what your paying for. Generation, Fuel Factor and Distribution is automatic charges that you have no control of. The usage charge is the one you do.

Hun, that's not that high. And I have no idea how your friends are paying much less than you. They might be paying $35-$40 and that is about as big a discrepency I can see. I live in a 2 bedroom/1 bath with 3 of us total and our bill is around $160 during the winter(I live in Florida where the A/C is off in the winter) and about $200(when the A/C runs non stop), so what you are paying is actually quite cheap in my book.

Things that do affect your bill:

Old appliances; refridgerators that work so hard to keep cold, washers, dryers, etc...

Keeping cieling or other fans running all day.

Using your dryer to iron your clothes

you get the idea. But, like I said, it's really not that bad what you are paying.
