You could pick a great quarterback of the past and write about his achievements (assuming you mean American football). Or a famous announcer, refereee, somethign along those lines. Or you could write about how American football is called 'football' but in most other countries 'football' is really 'soccer'. Just some suggestions. Good luck!

Instead of doing a piece on a player or team, why not try a coach, manager, owner or sportscaster?
Its a little twist on the assignment. Most people will probably chose a player or team.
Even do a piece on a game, something historic and use quotes from newspapers to discuss the impact that game had on the sport of football or the NFL.
Or
Football is considered a working class sport. The popularity of the sport in cities like Pittsburgh and Green Bay in the past due to high concentrations of working class people vs. the more widespread popularity of the sport today; based on your opinion, write a piece discussing whether the fans have changed or the sport has changed or both.
That will probably make for a great paper, just keep it to the 3 page maximum.
Good Luck!

I think I would look into the equipment.
The who, what, why, when, where, and how of the first football, helmets, pads, cleats, the uprights, tee. You get the idea. Just start with the most basic, the football itself, and you can stop around the the 3 page point.
Good luck, it sounds like fun.

um...sry I don't really know much about football, otherwise I could've given you some good suggestions. I could only think about the history, but you said you didn't want that...Maybe you could write about some of the great football players? Or about the teams? Sorry if I wasn't much help, and your welcome if I was.

It might be interesting for you to pick a bad NFL team and list all of their strengths and weaknesses. You might include some possible solutions to some of their weaknesses.
