i need to clean the outside of my flute, but i am not sure what I can use around the hous to clen it.

Cheesecloth is best because it doesn't leave lint. A WELL WASHED washcloth should be ok.
Are you looking for a dry cleaning or a wet one?
Call a local music store. Good musical instruments are expensive and should be taken care of properly. Get professional advice.
