oo? I've got dozens of submissions sent out but just thought I'd ask you all for ideas. The advice I got was to try up to a 100. It's a sci-fi/fantasy romance. But without a lot of sex sceans. Any ideas would be welcome. I've been rejected by Dorchester and Kesington is still out there along with St. Martins.

I'm following up on the last question, because I can't post there while it's in voting. You commented after the fact that you can't afford an agent. However, a reputable agent will cost you NOTHING until you are published. If an agent chooses to represent you, then he or she will work for free until your book is published and then collect 15% of the profits--which really isn't bad, because the agent will probably negotiate a better deal for you, and then when you're ready to publish your 2nd book, you only have to send it to one person, who already has a stake in seeing you succeed. If an agent _does_ ask you for money up front, then it's because he or she is a con artist.

That said, if you choose to send your manuscript out directly to publishers, you may yet succeed that way. I'm the one who said the thing about 100+ query letters, and I'm not saying it's always that way, just that it was that way for a friend of mine (whose book did eventually get published), but if you do your research in advance, you can trim a lot off of that number.

There are a lot of small presses out there that will accept books submitted without an agent. Good luck with the research. Sorry not to be of more help.

Oh, and if you get to the point where you lose patience and want to publish it yourself, use lulu.com, not Publish America.

The extra I listen about brokers those days, the added satisfied i'm that one and all of those I utilized to rejected me... Supposing i wanted an agent, might want to i opt for slightly of writing or non-editorial one? i'd opt for one which knew what they were doing. Reject my e book because it truly is no longer publishable, or settle for it and help me to edit it to make it publishable - i do not care both way. do only not settle for it and throw it at an editor in the wish that he will forget the topics because it truly is in a subgenre it truly is warm at present. That only makes both one human beings seem unprofessional.
