Will it keep flys away if you hang a bag of water in front of your door?

That would probably help if you put sugar in it. The flies are attracted to the sweetness of the sugar and will drown in the water - keeping the flies out. So I guess there's some scientific evidence in the principle. On the other hand, home depot sells a fly catcher that's a plastic bottle that you fill with water and a sweet mixture for about $3.59 that works pretty good too.

True: I worked at an outdoor midevil faire and the cooks used this trick. I saw not one fly around their food.
