I used to work in a store that sold salt water fish. It is a very hard job to keep them alive.

First the fish need to be put into a plastic bag half full of water. The air is then squeezed out and re-filled with oxygen. The bag is then sealed and placed into a Styrofoam container so the temperature will be maintained and give it some shock protection. The container is then covered. The container is now packed into a box for shipping and so it will not move around and shipped via overnight express.

As you can see, it is a lot of work and there is no guarantee that the fish will arrive alive (unless you are taking them across town, then any bowl with a lid will do).
