3. 2(x - 2) = x + 3 > (2x - 2 = x + 3 is incorrect)

First: eliminate parenthesis > use distribution - multiply the outer term with the terms in the parenthesis...

2(x) - 2(2) = x + 3
2x - 4 = x + 3

Sec: combine "like" terms > add 4 to both sides...

2x - 4 + 4 = x + 3 + 4
2x = x + 7

*subtract "x" from both sides...

2x - x = x - x + 7
2x - x = 7
x = 7
