Dr. King's message came at a time when we needed him the most. He planted a seed that needed time to grow. We need to listen to new voices in today's society with new messages. His dream is still very much alive and a part of America. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, there are new ills for our nation. We should feel blessed that a man with his power and strength of character came to us when he did. Humans have often destroyed those who come with messages of peace. We crucified Christ. We gunned down John Lennon, JFK and Dr. King. The positive part is that their message remains and we must pick up the task of passing it along to future generations. If we need to add to that message, then let the work begin with each of us...one step at a time.

I would like to think that we would listen. God, I'd hope we would. But he was such a pivotal figure at a pivotal time. Dr. King was able to take his message past the church (where Jakes & Robertson tend to fail) and to the people - all people of all colours.
