Because AIDS was discovered at a time when people were conservative - they found that there was a high proportion of gay people with the syndrome and decided that it must be a "gay disease". Initially it was called the Gay Related Immune Deficiency Syndrome because it was found in gay men - but when it was discovered in people who had not had relations with gay men, the name was discarded. Unfortunately a lot of people are too close minded to see past the stigma associated with this syndrome, and still have that same opinion.

Because they are ignorant and have no idea what they are talking about. What most people dont understand is that if you are in a monogamous relationship and both partners are HIV negative, then there is no chance of getting AIDS. People just need to understand and do research and not just think they know what they are talking about. Oh yeah, and its NOT just homosexual people who get AIDS, ANYONE, straight, bi, or gay can get AIDS if they sleep around!

because they are ignorant, as NONAME has demonstrated. If people actually bothered to do and research or read facts that can be found all over the internet (instead of spending time on the internet spreading their ignorance and hatred), they'd know that the majority of people who have HIV/AIDS are heterosexual, and being straight in no way makes you safe from contracting it.

It's easier for guys to spread it because of the way we orgasm. Not to mention lack of risk of pregnancy makes people a lot less likely to use protection. If you're clean and use a condom then it doesn't matter who you are.
