Are we just fooling ourselves?
Can we ever really take people as they are? I don't see my self as a racist or a gay hater. No I'm not gay but I don't hate people who are I think that thats their bizness not mind. But its like if I ask questions about gay people to help myself better understand whats going on and eventhough I think I'm askn the question in the most non disrespect way I still in up making someone mad. am I just fooling myself into believen that all people regaurdless of our differences can really be at a place where we except people for who they are and be able to ask questions without hurting anyone? Or are we just fooling ourselves thinking that thats possible?

Any time you place a large number of people in a venue, someone will be upset with something that is said or what they view as "implied." I believe that if we truly allow for the complexities of the human mind and understand that no two people are alike, then we can begin to allow our differences to be a point that unites not divides us. You have a right to ask questions about any subject...along Yahoo guidelines, of course. You will have to sort through the responsible answers, the off the cuff jokes, and the sarcastic ones that come as well. If you can get a variety of answers, you can find the pearl among the oysters. That is what you seek after all. I don't think we are fooling ourselves...even if there are some fools in with the rest.

You SHOULD be able to ask questions out of curiosity or to better understand a community or group. But also, there are A LOT of people who ask questions, not to hear the answer but to force their own opinions down everyone else's throats. unfortunately, people in marginalized communities like the gay community or in minority groups have often lived a life of having people ask ignorant questions to hurt us, so, often people use anger as a defense mechanism to protect themselves from being hurt.

and remember, you can't please everyone all the time.

there are also people who are always looking for a fight in order to fix whatever issues of self-hatred, insecurity, or fear they have within themselves.

good luck and keep asking questions!

Historically speaking, all people have never been at peace.
But each of us can believe anything we want to on the subject.
Fooling ourselves?
I regard it as hope for growth and learning. An Ideal that can only be aimed at though never reached.
