While in Lima, make sure to visit at least one of the top restaurants. They are great and cheap (by US or European standards). For cebiche and seafood, try La Mar or Pescados Capitales (lunch only). For traditional Peruvian, choices are plenty: Astrid & Gastón, Las Brujas de Cachiche, José Antonio. For sushi with Peruvian flavour, the best right now is Edo (with Osaka pretty close).
For sure, visit Cusco and Machu Picchu. April should be a good period: rainy season is drying out and tourists are still few (which makes the Machu Picchu experience more mystical).
Lima and Cusco/Machu Picchu aside, there is little left of your Peruvian week. If you are for the mountains, you could visit Puno and the lake Titicaca; if you rather prefer the ocean, the Paracas reserve could be a good option.
