I am about to receive my second shot, for the hpv vaccination, and I was just wondering if you could have sex before you received all 3? I've never had sex, that's why my doctor recommended the shot, I just want to know if having sex will make the vaccine not work or anything?

Well, if you've never had sex, first of all, I would recommend holding off till you've gotten all three in the series....you're so close now to protecting yourself, why screw it up????

Secondly, you should ALWAYS use a condom, whether you've having sex for the first time or the 10,001st time! Safe sex is mandatory....just because you might not catch the virus that causes cervical cancer does NOT mean for a second that you're protected from any of the other nasties out there today!

Without having the full series of the vaccine your still at risk for the cancer causing HPV. I would strongly recommend that you wait until your series is complete. Remember this vaccine DOESN'T PROTECT YOU FROM ALL STRANDS OF HPV. So, please think before you have sex and practice safe sex at all times. Condoms DO NOT protect you from other forms of HPV due to being a skin virus. I hope this helps.

Regardless if you are vaccinated or not, you should still have protected sex. First, the vaccine is not 100% effective. Second, it only protects you against 4 different strains of HPV.
