1) what plants are good for the front of an aquarium?

-also-

2)I'm looking for something that will grow towards the light and then float across the surface of the water like brazilian pennywort.

Here is a picture of what I'm talking about. The pennywort is on the left.

Glosso (Glossostigma elatinoides), dwarf hairgrass are good for the front of the tank. Brazilian microswords or regular hairgrass...depends on the size of the tank! Glosso will form a carpet, unless the light is too low, then it grows taller.

Vallisneria and sagittaria are both grasses that will grow up and then float across the top of the tank, but be warned, some of these are really big! I have a Val in my 30 g tank that is three feet long!

Standard decorating sense says that tall plants go in the back with short plants in front. If you want brazilian pennywort, get brazilian pennywort. Any plant is okay. It's just a matter of what you want.

i have the brought the plants that you are looking for i brought them at walmart they come in a seed you just drop the in and they will float at first then sink to the bottom.and the price is excellent only $2.95 they come in a pack of twos or threes.i have them in my tank they grow toward the light with nice leaves on them and once they reach the top they open up like Lilly pads.PS. don't but the plants at the fish store they have par site on them you wont see them at first there like little snails and make your tank look awfully i had a hard time trying to get rid of them.GOOD LUCK.
