Emmys - just TV
Golden Globes - TV and Film (but splits it into drama and comedy)
Academy Awards - Film
Screen Actors Guild - TV and Film
BAFTA - Film and tv
any critics awards

the difference tonight besides the tv sections is the musical performances, there isn't a host for the globes either

The Golden Globe award is presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. They are often viewed as a prelude to the Academy Awards (Oscars). The Oscar is often referred to as the most prestigous award that a movie actor / actress can receive. The Emmy award is for television performances...and there are some television categories in the Golden Globe honors. Although they are basically an honor for outstanding film and television work, the way the voting occurs is the major difference. For the Oscars, nomination ballots are mailed to members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in December, and must be returned within two weeks in order for their vote to be counted. The secret ballots must be returned directly to PricewaterhouseCoopers, the accounting firm in charge of processing the votes.
PricewaterhouseCoopers tabulates the votes and the final list of nominees is announced in January. Another round of secret voting takes place, with members of the Academy only able to vote on the final nominees listed in each category. Those ballots must be returned to PricewaterhouseCoopers within two weeks. After the ballots are tabulated, only two partners of PricewaterhouseCoopers will know the results until the envelopes are opened on stage during the Academy Awards presentation.

That really is a good question. A dvd and vcr player both play movies, but they are kinda different. Kinda like the Gloden Globes and Oscars. The Oscars(also known as the academy awards) are the BIGGEST movie award show. The Golden Globes are the second biggest in my opinion. The movies that are nominated are usually the same.
The Emmy's is meant for television shows, not movies. Read the links below for more info! :)
