It's the way to identify the medication if it were ever found outside of a prescription bottle. Call a pharmacy or check a Medication book and they're able to tell you the name and manufacturer of the medication based off those numbers.

It is a code to identify the pill , although Vicodin says Vicodin right on it. Are you sure of what it is?
