Do you have a tanning bed in your home? Because a week after the birth with a breastfeeding baby and a body that still has fluids coming out of every part you're probably not going to want to go out to tan. Heck......you're not going to have TIME to tan at a week postpartum! I think you have pretty unrealistic expectations of what it's going to be like to have a week old baby.

That said......

Tanning is completely compatible with breastfeeding and will not alter the milk whatsoever. There is no record of any dangers to the breastfed baby in relation to tanning. Sometimes clients are given Carotene to enhance the tanning - that should be avoided while breastfeeding. Make sure to protect your nipples from burn (for your own comfort more than anything), and keep in mind that ultraviolet exposure ages skin prematurely and increases the risk of cancer.

Go for it chick...although I have to say that I imagine a week after giving birth you just might not be in the "mood" to go tanning...

However, here's what the La Leche League says about tanning and breastfeeding...

"The BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK, 3rd revised edition, states on page 449, "No evidence exists that the nursing mother's use of tanning beds has any effect on her breastfed baby."

It is important to limit exposure so that burning is avoided. Some mothers have reported getting burnt nipples and breasts when using tanning beds. This is extremely painful so be sure to cover your nipples and breasts and use caution. If any vitamins or medications are suggested to enhance the tanning, be sure to check with your health care provider before taking them"

Therefore, I say tan and enjoy!

Yes. As always talk to your doctor, but it isn't a good idea for breastfeeding moms. You have to act like you are still pregnant while breastfeeding. Everything goes to your baby. I used to work at a tanning salon and we did not allow pregnant or breastfeeding mom in the beds.
Hope that has helped you.

after u give birth, your life will change. Tanning beds might be the last thing on you're mind.

No, but you will get cancer and die young. Using a tanning bed gives you 8 times greater chance at developing melanoma.

Please be smart and get your priorities straight. Use a self tanner at home instead.

I'd rather be safe than sorry. Before getting back to tanning I would consult with my ob/gyn.

As best as I can tell it shouldn't have an effect. That said be cautious and sparing when applying any lotion to your breasts. New scents/flavours can detract from baby wanting to nurse.

I would consult the doctor just to be on the safe side... I would think that to be a bad idea.
