A position is available to me because someone has retired, there are 3 others that want this position. It is possible that they will quit if they are passed up. I am pregnant ( no one @ work knows yet) and I'm about 80% sure I will NOT return to work after the baby arrives. A lot could happen in 8-9 months left and since I'm not 100% sure I'll quit do I take the position and see what happens or do I step aside & let someone who will be more permanent have the position?

Take the promotion if your offered. 80% is not 100% Besides, if your found to be the best candidate for the job why shouldn't you reap the benefits of having the promotion, pay raise, experience.

You could possibly take the job, and it let be known that it might not be a permanent thing. Maybe this will prevent the others from quitting, and they might it get it later? Or I would say that if there a even a bit of doubt about moving on after the baby arrives, I would save the company a lot of time/effort to find another replacement with the experience that those 3 have.

It seems that you are 80% sure that you will not be coming back. If you do not come back, are you hoping for a good reference from this company? It may not be worth the pressure and aggravation of learning a new position just to leave. Your pregnancy will give you stress enough. Also, your feloow employees could be a potential problem if the other three staff do not quit and they find out about your condition, it could cause stress levels that you do not want to have. If you like what you are doing now, keep at it until you quit. If you hate it, go for it. Weigh your options carefully then you will make a good decision.

This is a dilemma. If you really feel you are not going to be returning to work once the baby is born then maybe you might want to pass this promotion up. But if you would be returning to work in that industry at all in the future I would take the postion to give yourself a few months in that position. When you leave they can fill that position again and you will have some experience to put on your resume. Congrats on the pregnancy and good luck.

Of course, unless you are a trouble-making selfish jerk ... which you do not seem like or you would not be having a moral dilemma.

Or you could just be honest and let your employer know you are preggers.

I read more of these posts and it is apparent our country is full of thoughtless selfish people. Now you know why they pay women less money than men, because they pull stuff like this and you never know what to expect. What goes around comes around.

If you know you are not going to come back to work the honorable thing to do is to not apply for the job, or if you God forbid lose the baby or have financial problems, let the company know that beforehand. You could apply and then not accept the job if you do not intend on keeping it, but that might create bitterness and they might not let you come back if you want to at some later point.

I really do not see why everyone is telling you to take the job if you can - but that is how people are from my experience in hiring people. Why would you want this job anyway if you are going to be a mother. Is it just an ego boost?

If you know for sure you are leaving after the baby, then let someone who is willing to put the time and effort in, have this position. That would the fair way to go. You may get a backlash from others who work with you later on if you knew you weren't staying. You do not need any extra stress in your life now or later. God Bless you and your new baby!

I believe that I would take the position. As you have said, no one knows what may happen in the next 8 to 9 months. IF the others quit, then they were not happy in the company anyway, and evidently not the right people for the company. Good luck with this, and know that whatever was meant to happen...will....

Take the promotion. You never know what might happen. Your situation may change for some reason and you may have to return to work. Having the promotion would look good on your resume if you need to leave there. Having a pay bump (I'm assuming one comes with the position) will impact your future earnings because you will be able to use it as a negotiation tool.

You have to look out for yourself in this tough world. Being a nice guy can leave you screwed.

Wow. good question.

The golden rule would be good to take a look at here...."Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Put yourself in the shoes of those who are also going to looking at this job. Lets say you get the job and then have to quit. It would be really hard on thos few who really could have taken this job and gone somewhere with it.

If you are serious about this pregnancy, then your first responsibility is too that child inside of you. taking on this new job could cause lots of stress. My wife has high blood pressure and a thyroid problem. Pregnancy itself can cause an elevation in blood pressure alone. Is it really a good thing for you and the baby to think about taking this new job?

The Lord will provide for you and after the baby is here, if you are looking for new employment, I'm sure you will find what you need. Just talk with Him and He will lead you where you are supposed to go.

Take care of that young-in!

You have not got the job yet, you may not carry to term and there is a chance that you will come back to work if you get the position. There are a lot of vairables here. I say go for it. Even if you don't return you would have made an important step in your career and salary should you chose to return to work after pregnancy or even later.

I think you should listen to your heart. It sounds like you already know the right answer to your question. Let me shine another light on this. Look at it from the view of your EMPLOYER. Once they find out that you have taken this job knowing that you are not going to stay, they will feel that they have wasted their time and $ training you, etc all for a very short term answer to their problem. If you ever want to come back to that company, they will remember this, and you may find yourself blackballed. I think that the right thing to do is to let the position go to someone who plans to make it thiers for a longer period of time.
