How old is the character Darren Shan in the Cirque Du Freak series of books?

I think he starts out around 12 or 13 and he stays that age because he becomes a vampire for awhile until he hits the purge and looks like a 17 year old but really by the time the series ends he really should be in his 30s or 40s because he describes Steve being around that age but he never really goes out and says how old he is.

I don't think it's ever really been revealed but I'd put him in his early teens, about thirteen to fifteen years of age since most Young Adult books are intended to have characters around the same age as the people reading them.
