Don't people realize the headaches they are inflicting on their children by thinking up unique names or bizarre new spellings of exisiting names?
Someone asked about "khouri". If they give that person that name, they introduce themselves and anyone who hears it assumes they know how to spell it. They get it wrong and are corrected. They probably won't remember....a lifetime of headaches.
Look at the problems people with names like Sara(h), C(K)atherine, Jeff(Geoff) have...... trust me this annoys them. It would be even worse when you pick one nobody would guess or remember.
There are so many REAL names to chose from. I realize it's the parent's perogative, but they need to think ahead a little for their kids sake. Give them zany/creative middle names if you want that's OK.
Am I alone in this?

Thank you for giving me a little hope that there are still some people that like "real" names! I am so tired of the made-up name crap and the trendy spellings! All a strange name does for a child is cause confusion!
Seriously, I'm all for being unique. But two things people need to realize:
1) Children are unique on their own. They don't need name to prove it. A child named Mary is no less unique than a child named McMadisynleigh.
2) Mary actually would have a more unique name that McMadisynleigh at this point! The made-up names are all starting to blend in together and look relatively similar! In all honesty, the most uniquely named kids right now are the ones with classic, traditionally spelled names.
And I'm not saying name your kids Michael or Jennifer. There are literally tens of thousands of names with culture and meaning behind them to chose from. Why a parent would want to make one up or fumble the spelling is completely beyond me.

I agree with you but at the same time i don't. See i named my son Khouri and to be very honest i hate it now because no one can ever pronounce his name. Some people like it because it's spelled different but people have to always think twice before they say his name. I really want to change his name. But at the same time i do like unique ways of spelling a name as long as it is not extreme...For example someone brought up the name Chase, I would probably spell is Chayse.

I totally agree, I think its so funny when you ask someone how they spell their kids name and they get all bent out of shape..it could be a normal name but have a wacky spelling and they get mad at you for not knowing how to spell it, its there own damn fault. I feel bad for the kids that have to learn how to spell some of these names in kindergarten.
I have a different middle name, nothing that is in any baby book that I have ever seen, but its a family name. I am named after my great grandmother..her first name was Allienne so my parents gave that to me as a middle.

I totally agree. My favorite names arre spread throughout this section, and I think it's obvious what names I like.
Louisa Rose
Julia Rose
Mackenzie Rose
Elaine Olivia/Olivia Elaine
Austin Robert
Andrew Robert
Jackson (Jack) Austin
Samuel (Sam, Sammy) Justin
and you get the idea. I see all kinds of crazy ones and I hate them.
You all know that I love helping you name your kids, but it's so hard to name them when you're all so interested in names I can't work with.
Thanks for agreeing.

I agree. Some creativity is cool but man, some people go WAY overboard!! I think people should also consider the definition of a name before assigning it to their kid, especially boys. Guys' names can have a Major affect on their identity.

I'm amazed at some of the names I see, yesterday I met a girl named Steffernie. The one that got me was on the back of someone's car they had a decal for the school band and the kid's name was Maryah. Is that Maria, Mariah...something else?

Your not alone on this. I totally agree. It maybe fun for some parents to give their children wild names with weird spellings but in the long run, its a thoughtless and very cruel thing to do.

I think "Khouri" is traditionally a last name because we have a local restaurant chain by that name.
But as a substitute teacher, my pet peeves include: The name that is pronounced a different way than it is spelled, and parents that give their girls boy names and boys girl names. If you give your kid a "different" name, please at least spell it phonetically!

I totally disagree with you i have 4 kids myself and they all have what I think are unique names. I have a daughter with a fairly common name but it is spelled different. Her name is Triniti. I personally dont like plain jane names. I like my kids to have a different name. Why should there have to be like 8 kids with the same name all in the same class. My kids dont have totally odd names but they are beautiful and unique. My other kids are Titus, Araceli, and Mikylah. Like i said not odd but still unique.
