There are conflicting reports on both the safety and effectiveness of daily doses of quinine to releive muscle cramps. What's the medical answer?

Quinine is used to prevent and treat malaria.
Quinine is also used to treat nighttime leg muscle cramps.
Quinine may cause side effects:
* stomach pain
* vomiting
* stomach upset
* dizziness
* headache
* sweating
* restlessness
* confusion
* apprehension

Use potassium to prevent cramps, your body uses 3 salts mainly.
Sodium chloride, Potassium chloride, and magnesium chloride
You can get it in gatorade, or "lite salt" (same place in grocery store as regular salt), or add potassium as a mineral (health food store)

Personally, I eat bananas. No side effects. Too much potassium can be v. bad - increase heart rate.
