In Orlando, some of the best restaurants are on the city walk at Universal Studios. Emeril's, the Bubba Gump Company, Mythos, and Margaritaville to name a few. Huge selection, all together, and always bands playing on the sidewalks, lights, festivities, fun and great food.

The restaurant with the best fresh fish and seafood is http://straubsseafood.com/.
If you want authentic southern Bar-B-Que try O´Boys Bar-B-Qhttp://www.oboysbbq.net/ .
Another Orlando Icon is Bubble's Bodacious BBQ http://www.bubbalous.com/index.htm.
These are some local mom and pop not chain restaurants.
The only type of restaurants around the parks are the national chain types. The ones I have recommended are easy to reach from the parks. It is worth the trouble to get some good food and see the area.
Oh and for great Thai go to the Thai Palace in Winter Park http://local.yahoo.com/details?fr=dd-local-tl1&id=14095142&stx=thai&csz=Winter+Park+FL&ed=fPPDya160SwqiG0Yf4lkP6__PwVoXTx6b91b1WLRDoblOx7hGWGsXAiIIX.w2HLrSdbrh_w_7gg-

Flemmings (Winter Park)
Seasons 52
Fishbones
Bonefish (yes they are 2 different places)
Linda's Winter Park Diner (diner food)
Sam Sneads
Bubbalou's Bodacious Bar-B-Que
