I'm looking for a car that:
- seats 4,
- is reasonably safe for my family,
- has excellent performance, most especially in handling,
- is a convertible, and
- is reasonably cheap.
I'm currently thinking of a Mini Cooper S Works. Better suggestions?

Cooper is a great little toy car....but would be very uncomfortable and lacking power once 4 people are on board....after all, it is smaller than a VW Bug.
Pontiac G6 has a new hard top convertible out.
Not many other choices unless you get into like the Lexus SC430 or into the Jaguars.
I sure wouldn't recommend a PT Cruiser convertible thats for sure.

Check out the Pontiac G6 convertible.
The Mini Cooper is nice, but rear seat safety could be a big problem.

a mini is not a safe car.
also, a mini is not reasonably cheap.
but then again, what you consider reasonbly cheap is all relative.
There are very few 4 seater convertibles.
