First of all you should try to login in safemode using the native Administrator account, then change whatever you want to change, in most cases that will solve the problem.

If you cannot login in safemode, then you may follow any of these ways to reset/remove/edit the password:

You can find the Admin password if you can login to a limited account by using 3rd party softwares, some googling will help you in that, search for "Windows 2000 Administrator password cracker, finder...etc"

otherwise, you can reset the password using password-reset diskettes, if you don't have one, google it, you will find dozens of it.

if all failed, you still can hack into the OS one way or another, for example you can use the command prompt from a start-up disk or something to copy/rename explorer.exe instead of login.scr in system32 directory, thus when you wait for the screen saver while have not logged-in yet, it will open the explorer instead.

There are quite other ways to hack into the machine, so if either of the above succeeded, you can feel free to contact me to explain further.

Thanks.

you could always do a fresh install. Get a hold of a friend that has Windows XP preferably SP2 (windows 2000 is a bit outdated) insert the CD while the computer is on but do not start the setup. Turn the computer off when you turn it back on it will enter the Windows Setup. Allow it to wipe everything on the computer and do a complete install. Voila! New fully functional laptop.

ok my buddy did this to mine... in case you dont' have something fairly saved on there... returned up each thing!!!!!!!!!!! then often with the desktops you get a disk which will provide help to in actuality do away with all of the classes on your computing device different than those it got here with... this often removes all of the viruses or in spite of you have on it. then once you have executed that make a dummy account on your computing device and make that the administrator. do never bypass on it and then purely use a customer account because of the fact then as long as you be attentive to the password of the administrator you may do each thing. yet say in case you have been to get an endemic it would not be waiting to coach itself because of the fact it desires the "admistrators password" which you will for sure not do ... now in spite of in case you already know all this or not... sry yet it fairly is the only way i will clarify it and it isfree... lol

contact the person who gave it to you or use the operating system restore disc if you have one, you probably wont be able to find the disc in store for it but maybe this is a good time to upgrade to windows xp??

There is no way to bypass this without either formatting your system or having the password itself.

Besides, stealing laptops from people is not cool.

No, sorry, you need the password. Ask the person you got it from.
