80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable................!

Not necessarily. The lack of a God wouldn't necessarily negate the existence of a 'meaning of life'. And the lack of an 'afterworld' doesn't negate the possibility of it being discovered (if indeed it exists), as someone could discover it while they're still alive.
In any case it's a moot point since we all know that the Vogons would destroy the earth just before it would happen to make way for a hyperspace bypass.

The more life you experience, the more you know about the meaning of it. It is very precious, too brief and can be quite wonderful at times, and equally heartbreaking. I do believe in
G-d and feel our being here is a test. Each generation should be making the world a better place for the next.
Try to stay on the positive thinking side and ask yourself, What if is is true there is an afterlife? Whether there is or not (and I believe there is) your life experience will be the better for it.

Yes, I've thought about that a lot when I was a freshman in college. Today, I see the millions and millions needlessly slaughtered around the world generally because of power and money, specifically, don't know. All I can say is that the almighty must have made a better world to live in because this one is too damn mean and violent.

The ‘what’s the meaning of life’ question is inherently flawed, (IE. Why is grass red?).
Life does not have a meaning, it has a purpose.
Life is a naturally occurring phenomenon. It is a component of nature, like a “tree” or “rain” and being such, meaning is not a requirement. However, life, a tree and rain all serve a purpose.

depends. most people simply want to believe there is something better out there after you die . i think the hole point in life is so that each generation can better its self . plain and simple but we all tend to think we are special the concept of god is a very powerful belief and in my opinion a good thought . but that's all it is back in the day it was used to enforce beliefs it caught on and grew so big it causes wars and hatred and among the youth of the USA many are not believing anymore and that is among other things why the family value is going to hell OK I'm done

I don't think that are is one absolute meaning of life.Everyone starts their life differently, and has certain ideas, and people and passion that are important to them.So the meaning of your life is something that you need to found out yourself.

There is no god or afterlife. You are overlooking the whole purpose of life, which is to make more life.

Life doesnt have a meaning, it has a purpose, which is to be born,to grow, to reproduce or not, and to die, and in between all these, to evolve and learn.
