this is even worse than the circus surrounding Saddam's death - they have so far made a right ****-up of the whole procedure or do you think this was deliberate? Death penalty is one thing, gruesome outcome is quite another. What do you think?

I'm not actually disputing he deserved the death penalty but isnt the u.s. and the u.k. supposed to show them that despite the ultimate punishment it should be carried out efficiently, cleanly? Instead it's been very messy and lacking professionalism if one can use that word to execute someone.

As much as they probably deserved the sentence they received,i also don't believe in the Wayy that it wa carried out.I'm sure there will be another video turn up on you tube for all to see sooner or later, especially as it was Saddam's brother, and because he was decapitated.I would not want to watch someones gruesome death,no matter how much I thought that they deserved it.

There are basically two ways to hang an individual.
Up till the mid 19th century the condemned man suffocated to death usually after something he was standing on such as a horse drawn cart moved away leaving him dangling in mid air. This was a particularly painful way to die and it could take as long as 25 minutes for the individual to lose consciousness.
However, the standard method since the mid 19th century is the so called 'long drop' method. This as the name implies is carried out by making the condemned man stand over a trap door with a noose around his head and when this trap door is opened he falls through it and hopefully breaks his neck. Death is therefore instantanous. This is what happed to Saddam Hussein.
However, the executioner needs to be skilled in order to carry out this form of hanging properly. As the length of the rope and hence the distance the condemned man falls will have to be judged correctly with reference to the man's weight. The heavier the individual the shorter the rope should be. The shortest drop is 4 feet for the heaviest of men and the longest drop should be about 10 feet for the lightest.
If the rope is too long in relation to the man's weight then he will be decapitated and if it is too short then insufficient force will be generated on the neck in order to break it and the individual will be left alive to suffocate slowly.
In reflection if I was subject to a botched hanging I would prefer to be decapitated as this death would be much quicker and humane than being left to suffocate slowly.

cant see how by simply hanging that he would be decapitated, they most likely slipped with the hack saw when cutting him down, they have made no more of ***** up than these people who killed thousands in the manner that they did, I hate violence, which is what this is, but when the evidence of there outrageous killings is with out any shadow of a doubt then they deserve all they get,
don't know if they should have been kept alive tho !! and put in stocks like the old days, put them up for ridicule and humiliation, let the children, aunts, uncles of the people they so mercilessly killed spend an hour with these animals

what you heard and read is an interesting write up on what was supposed NOT to happen. that is number 2 failures from people responsible to carry out justice --while things going astray. the head is one issue. other ethical issues abound too. that is to show you that the Middle East and specially Iraq --is not the standard of democracy you would expect compared to technologically developed countries. Justice was carried --with a slanted version --the judges should make a point to administer how and by whom the final moment of the accused is taken. hope it helps your query but not the accused.

The drop length for Saddam was perfect, the hangman even insisted on placing the hood which was declined around Saddams neck, to stop the skin being ripped off. (remember there were two marks on his check and jaw where the noose abraised the skin? this was because the hood wasn't there to prevent this)
His brother had cancer (we are informed) and if he was not weighed on the day before the execution then any historic records could have been wrong.
Of course this could have been intended, but even UK hangmen have made this error in the past.
PS: It's especially tricky to hang ladies, but thats for another question!

they should calculate weight and rope length to ensure the neck is broken but the head is not removed. obviousally whoever did this cannot do maths.
the body and head fell into the pit with the hood still on the head. the iraqi government have shown the video to journalists but say it will not be released for the public to see.
he would not have felt any pain being decapitated, which it think it much too nice a death for him.

Capital punishment, extremely the brutal and vindictive variety happening in Iraq, does not communicate properly for a international which considers itself "Civil." yet you may't assume plenty from an Iraq whose people have time-honored not something, on condition that its formation after international I, yet suppressive governments and violence. and of path, united states of america that's the only united states of america in the Western international to have Capital punishment, even though abolished by utilising the great State of Massachusetts as properly as others, isn't one to set an occasion for civil habit. i've got not got self assurance united states of america has adjusted its coverage by utilising this so-referred to as "surge" concerning Iraq yet following an identical defective path which has failed miserably for that reason a techniques with the destiny offering greater of an identical different than with greater suitable American casualties and financial value. those executions shouldn't in any respect ensue, in spite of the timing, even although people who have been achieved, Saddam, his 0.5-brother, and that different nut have been approximately as evil as you will ever think of. President Bush, if not stopped by utilising the Congress and the yank people is set to proceed this "conflict" properly into the subsequent administration with a view to blame its failure on a destiny President. undergo in ideas, till these days and after the two the Senate and homestead fell into Democratic arms, President Bush had under no circumstances admitted to a "mistake" even though his administration has been riddled with them for the previous 6 years and maximum probable for 2 greater.

I suppose if you dont want to be decapitated during hanging,
its best not to murder and oppress thousands of innocent
people in the first place.

This shows the world the true level of civilisation we can associate with Arab (and of course American) justice. Given their lack of ethical and moral development I tend to regard the majority of Arabs and Americans as a cultural sub-species.
