Simple capitalism, super-sized meals sell. There is a demand for super-sized meals, and fast food chains are fufilling that demand. If people stopped ordering super-sized meals, they would disappear.

i'd rather get a big soda and small portions on everything else.
i like a big soda or tea with a lot of ice that lasts all day.
i think the supersizing came in as a way to beat out the competition but they all ended up doing it eventually. Now they are all doing smaller portions on everything. I still want my big sodas!!!

Just because larger portions are available doesn't mean you have to eat it.
Also people used to eat more smaller meals. Now it is "normal" for people to eat only 2 or even 1 meal a day (people skip breastfast and/or lunch).
Before people would ALWAYS eat breakfast AND lunch. They would eat an early dinner and often have another meal before bed. It wasn't unusual to have a snack in the afternoon either.

Because we have become gluttons.
I guess that having a larger portion makes you feel more sucessful, and it's a never ending vicious cycle. I eat way more than I should, and if my metabolism ever slows down, I'm in BIG trouble. LOL

It's ridiculous yes. That's why I always get myself a kid's cheseburger meal. It's like living in the past - the normal size hamburger, fries and coke.

I dont know, but its sorta gross how much people eat now compared to the old days. Of course a lot of don't think we eat a lot because we are use to it.
