Season 1 was about an attempt to assassinate the US President, by blackmailing a federal agent (Jack Bauer) by kidnapping his daughter and wife.
Season 2 was about a plot to detonate a nuclear bomb in LA and start a war by planting evidence to mis-lead the US into believing the wrong country was behind it. Jack must stop the bomb and prove the evidence was false.
Season 3 was about an attack on the US using biological weapons. Jack must stop the attacks by pretending he has turned traitor and become a criminal.
Season 4 was perhaps the most exciting. It was a string of terrorist plots involving kidnapping the Secretary of Defense, forcing meltdowns in many nuclear power reactors, and of course, a nuclear bomb in LA. Though the twists and turns became unbelieable at times, this season was the gem of the show.
Season 5 - I'm drawing a blank. I remember snippets, but not the overall plot line
In all of them, the hero Jack Bauer overcomes insurmountable obstacles, both within our own gov't and those created by the terrorists, by being unimaginably brutal at times, doing anything necessary to save the country.

keifer sutherland saving the world (or america) from terrorists. Very entertaining, but sometimes gives me an anxiety attack, lol
