I know that most people my age know what this means by now, but I don't. Can someone please explain to me what it means?

it refers to the decision maker. going back into a long, long time ago (in my childhood circa 1950), a woman didn't wear pants or slacks. she wore a dress. the man wore the pants. it goes back to then and i am quite sure earlier than that. it was often used as a sarcastic remark "who wears the pants in your family?" "who makes the decisions around here?" usually a bullying tactic used on someone a bit shy or retiring. example: joe says "hey john. want to go out for a beer after work?" john says "i'm not sure. you know the mrs. has invited..." joe cuts john off and says "well, who wears the pants in your family? who makes the decisions? what do you need your wife's permission to do everything?"

got it?

When people say "Who wears the pants?" they mean who does most of the work in the relationship or who takes more control over the relationship.

Let me give you a scenario:

There is a man, his wife, and they have two children. Let's say the man says, "I wear the pants in this family." It means that he is the one who takes charge of things and makes the important decisions.
The wife could also be "wearing the pants in the family" meaning she makes the important decisions and takes control of things.

It means that whoever "wears the pants" is the one in charge and the 'important" one or whatever. I hope this helped you to understand.

A 'cord' is slang for a listening gadget. in fact a microphone so the feds can pay attention to what's being mentioned. back interior the day, the previous ones certainly had a cord working from them, i think the main modern-day ones does no longer have the cord. The smaller the extra suited!
