What did he do? If he deserved a spanking and you gave him one, then any type of consoling will negate the spanking. Don't give in or the child will play you by acting upset forever.

no!! let him realize what he got the spanking for was wrong! If you make it up to him he will think that what he did was ok because you now gave him a treat or whatever. he will also learn that you are a pushover and he will start to disrespect you and he will not care if he does stuff that upsets you because you reward him after the punishment.
