Recognising fake IDs!!?

My friend has an ID card which does not have a signature on it. Is it fake? Also, are there any other ways of recognising a fake ID? thanks for your help!

what kind of ID card?

If it is a driver's license, there is a book that is put out every year with an up to date sample of each state and military id
