This is not about sex. I'm out of town for a few months so unless there's an immaculant conception thanks for your concerns. I'm asking about regulating a period. An old girlfriend was told by her doctor to use calcium pills and they worked.

Birth control pills nowadays are generally safe. Since they are only available by prescription, she has to be seen by her gynecologist every so often to make sure everything is still okay. If she smokes, she needs to quit, because smoking while on bcp's is not a good combination. Leads to hypertension, increased lung problems with prolonged use, trouble conceiving when you want to, & fatigue, among other things.

There are quite a few different options within the oral contraceptive catergory. If one certain pill gives her undesirable side effects, (nausea, vomiting, queasiness, etc.....) she can call her gyno and get the pill or the strength of the dosage changed. Keep trying until she find one that works. She will be sooooo much happier and feel better when her period finally gets regulated.

Personally, I can't remember to take a pill everyday so I use the patch. I change it once a week, & I don't have any problems with it. Quite a few of my patients use the nuva ring, but sometimes it gets knocked out of place during intercourse. Some doctors will encourage the depoprovera shot every 12 weeks, but I wouldn't encourage anyone to go that route. The side effects are worse with it, and you are stuck with them for 3 months or more if you don't like it.

Just tell her to keep calling her doctor for something different if what she is presently taking doesn't suit her.

Good job for educating yourself about what's going on with your girlfriend. She's a lucky girl.

Birth control is completely safe. I've been on it for a long time. It's not like a medication, the pill is just female hormones. It regulates periods, makes them lighter and for some women actually clears up their skin and makes their boobs grow (which made me pretty happy. lol.) It's also like 98% accurate in preventing pregnancy if you two are sexually active. If you still want to know more, try researching it online. If your girlfriend is uncomfortable taking the pill, research other options, like the calcium pills you mentioned. There are other options of birth control as well. There is a patch that is changed once a week, a shot that makes a woman get her period only 4 times a year (which just weirds me out) and this new thing called Nuvaring, which is a vaginal ring changed once a month (and that just disgusts me). As long as she remembers to take the pill every day (suggest setting a reminder in her cell phone or something to take it at the same time every day), her period will be regulated and there are no negative side effects. There are also low-dose hormone birth control pills. The options seem endless, but a tiny pill once a day, in my opinion, is the best way to go.

Unless she has some health concerns such as some forms of cancer or blood clotting or if she's a smoker, birth control pills are pretty safe and generally do not have any adverse effects on a woman's fertility later on in life. There are studies that have shown that birth control pills can help reduce the chance of ovarian cysts and cancers and are many times used to treat endometriosis.

Many people think that weight gain is a common side effect but in reality there is no concrete evidence of this happening with the pills that are on the market today. Most women that are on the pill have not shown any significant weight gain over those who were not on the pill so most likely the weight gain would have happened regardless.

No this is about the best option, it is totally safe and it keeps from having any surprise babies! This method for regulating periods has worked for me for many years and it helps you keep track of your period, and the period won't last as long! There is nothing wrong with this, if she has problems with it she needs to talk to her doctor.

While there have claims by many people that homeopathy works, I am a firm believer of better living through chemistry. I think that the most reliable and safest method of regulation.

Birth control (hormones) is the best method for regulating a period. Birth control is somewhat safe, as long as you don't smoke. Smoking increases chances for blood clots. I personally don't feel as if birth control is great because even if you don't smoke it still slightly increases chances for stroke/blood clots and causes weight gain.

To get her period regulated yes its the best and safest option.

however if you are planning to have a baby , and this is the reason for your concern, then speak to her OBGYN together.
You can discuss all of the options.and all your health concerns.

however i would like to point out you should get married before trying to have a baby, wink wink.!
