Try Myrtle Beach South Carolina....
Tons of resorts, golf courses, dinner shows/theaters (Hard rock Cafe, Nascar Cafe, The Alabama Theater,Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede & dinner show,Legends, Alligator Adventure, Broadway @ the Beach, Barefoot Landing, Ripley's Museum & Ripley's Aquaruim), rides, museums, shops, restaurants, and of course warm weather and white, sandy beaches. A little more than a day's drive from D.C.(it's about 10 hrs.), but a beautiful, scenic route, with wonderful tourist attractions along the way.

If you like old American cities, Savannah and Charleston are both beautiful (in somewhat different ways). They'll have milder winter weather than DC, and are both within a day's drive.
Charleston seems to have a straight-laced "look at me, I'm beautiful and historically significant" kind of beauty while Savannah has more of a "come on in and have a drink...did you know George Washington had a drink in this very room?" kind of beauty. Both are well worth seeing and exploring.

well if you want truly warm weather, it would have to be Florida. Sure, Georgia and the Carolina's will be warmer than NY or NJ but they can still get ice and pretty darn cold. Florida has tons of great beach locales, but it is the "season", until March/April, so you can expect to pay more. St Augustine is great if you want a little history with your warm weather, or the keys can be fun and pretty funky.
