You know, I caught a bus from Manila to Baguio. It was a long, long, hot, stinky ride. I would NOT take my kids on it. (they are 11,9,3 and baby). You can fly there - but not sure from Zamboanga. Once there Baguio is a great place - the markets are excellent with delicious strawberries, honey and wooden carvings and the silver workshops worth seeing. The American army base is good with activities and parklands for the kids and a cute "pet cemetary". You can climb the steps to the copy of statue of Mary in Lourdes and throw coins to the little kids off the side of the lookout. Go to the movies and you only pay one admission price and can sit in the cool theatre all day.
Plenty to do and see and the climate is a little cooler because you are up in the mountains. I loved it.

As far as lodging is concerned, I recommend the Bloomfield Hotel which is right across the SM Mall. It is conveniently located and the prices are reasonable. Peak season (between Christmas and New Year) price was roughly $40 for a room with 2 beds. It is also close to Session Road. One big plus is the friendly and helpful staff. The downside is the parking.
For kids, you may want to do horseback riding at Wright park. It cost about $6/hour. A guide will also cost you the same price. You can also take them biking or boating at Burnham Park.
For night life, go to Nevada Square, the happening place of Baguio at night. Lots of beautiful twenty somethings there during weekends.
