i have a glass mug with a pewter oval on it depicting daytona 500 on feb 18, 2001 which is the race that dale earnhardt died in.....i would like to place the mug on ebay as i have been told it may be worth something to collecters of his memorabilia.....i have no use for the mug and i really dont see its value increasing anymore than it is worth now......problem is i dont know anything about ebay...are there steps that i need to be aware of?....is it time consuming?....should i provide a photo?....does it cost anything?....i prefer also not to set a price as it is only worth what someone is willing to give for it and i only know what i paid for it.... any help on this would be great!

Selling on ebay is actually quite a bit of work. You have to set up an account, research your item, list your item, deal with questions, communicate with the buyer then ship the item.
If this is all you have to sell you might want to consider saving yourself the trouble giving it to a racing fan as a gift.
I've given collectible mugs to coworkers at my office with a 1/2 pound bag of coffee or a bag of candy or other edible gift inside.

I just did a quick search of completed listings on ebay for daytona mugs, none of the ones related to racing that have been listed in the last few weeks have even sold.

Ebay wants your credit card info so they know you are a real person who is accountable for your actions. I was weirded out by that at first too, but I've had an ebay account for years and they've never charged it. Even when I have fees, I get an onvoice and I have to go through the motions to pay them, they don't charge my card that they have.

There are quite a few steps in order to sell an item on eBay. But, fortunately, it is pretty easy. Just follow those registration rules and then follow their step-by-step listing instructions. Yes, you will get much higher bid results if you provide a high quality photo. Unfortunately, eBay does need your credit card number because they charge A LOT of different, ridiculous fees and if you don't pay them monthly they will charge your card. Good luck. (We've been selling successfully on eBay for a few years and sometimes it's worth it... And sometimes it's not!)
