Milk thistle has been used to treat the liver for some 2,000 years. In the first century CE, the Roman naturalist Pliny wrote that the seedlike fruits of the milk thistle were "excellent for carrying off bile." Later herbalists also esteemed the herb as a liver healer. In the past two decades, research, conducted mainly in Europe, has proven them right.
The active substance in milk thistle seeds is called silymarin — a complex of various compounds that, according to medical researchers, not only protects the liver from damage due to toxins or disease but can actually regenerate liver tissue that's already in trouble.

Yes, I've used it and to the desired end.

I began to have bumps under my eyelids & one of them swelled up to where people began to ask me about it. At the same time, my eyesight began to dim. (I was about 45 years old.) The optomitrist said it "just happens" to people as they age and told me to use hot compresses.

Then I read an article in an alternative health magazine that said thickening and bumps on the eyelids can be one of the first indicators of toxic liver.

I took Sylimarin (milk thistle seed extract) w/ Dandelion Root & Burdock Root for 30 days, then just Milk Thistle seed for 30 days. My night vision returned and the bumps went away. Now I do a liver cleanse every year. Same eyeglass prescription for over 6 years.

Important when cleansing the liver to flush the kidneys at the same time, and keep bowels moving freely so you don't reabsorb the toxins.

I take milk thistle daily, for all the above reasons, sort of. I was in great gall bladder pain prior, and within 3 days no pain. now i can go for weeks without, (have had to a couple times) but better safe than sorry, i generally take milk thistle every day.

Yeah I have. There used to be a hangover cure available in Australia called 'After Party Fizz', and it had 2 differences from every other hangover cure on the market:

1. It contained Milk Thistle, and
2. It worked.

QED. Use it in good health.

I have used milk thistle and it works. It will not cure liver disease, but it will help the liver detox itself so it can work on healing itself.
