problem with rpm meter yamaha yzf 98?

have a 98 r1 and when you turn the key on the tack is going up to 8500 rpm holds about 2.5 sec and drops back down and it keeps doing this i have check out the wires and it all looks ok not sure why it is doing this any help would be great thanks dan

It's normal. Bikes with electric tachometers "rev up" (when you first turn on the key) to let you know that it's ready to work. Similar to idiot lights in a car.
