I never gave juice to my child unless she needed it b/c of illness (i.e. I couldn't get her to drink anything else). Babies and kids don't need juice. They can get all the nutrients and hydration they need from fruits and drinking water. My pediatrician told me never to make juice a habit, only at parties or other special occasions, like soda. The sugar/sweetness in juice is very concentrated compared to fruits.

They really don't need juice until they're a couple of years old - unless they have chronic constipation, in which case prune juice is okay. The reason is - you don't want them to fill up on juice and refuse their feedings. Juice doesn't offer anything nutritionally to a baby, really under the age of 2, because under a year, they get most of their nutrition from breastmilk or formula , and over a year, from foods.

Not until 6 months is recommended but most doctors don't want babies to have juice until after they are 1 years old. I give my 5 month old a little of diluted juice (1/2 and 1/2) when she is constipated.

Well, I actually started giving juice at around 9 months.. and my son did just fine.. bu tI diluted it.. 1/2 water and 1/2 juice and I used the juicy juice 100% juice.. not the sugary fake stuff... and I only did it once a day.. because any more than that and he would get the runs...

We were told to give our daughter juice at 6 months. Diluter half juice, half water and only in a sippy cup.

P.S.
My daughter never refused a feeding, because she had juice. I only give her juice at snack time, which is usually exactly in the middle of two feedings. Also, you should use baby juice which doesn't have much sugar and the sugar is does have is natural sugar. If it would rot their teeth out, then WIC and the doctor wouldn't recommend it.

Juice is really bad for little teeth if you start them off on water for as long as possible then thats the best thing for them. My son did eventually get sick of water so when he was about a year we gave him diluted fresh juice and if he does have actual fruit squash we get the no sugar variety and literally put a tiny drop in. Poor kid!
