My son-in-law is thinking of working for himself instead of a construction company. What would be the average cost for labor in the Ohio area? He would be doing roof repairs/flooring/painting etc.

He will need liability insurance that covers the cost of any damage he does to the property he's also covered on he's truck If he's a sole proprietor he will not need workers comp he will also pay be paying twice as much social security as his employer is paying half now as for wages every thing is done on a bid or estimate for the job If I were him I would get a means estimating book Home Depot has them they are a good starting point I'm positive he will lose his *** on a few jobs first but as he gains experience he should begin to make money he will also be putting in some long hours with no such thing as over time I hope this helps him

First thing he should be checking on liability insurance. The company he has been working for, has been paying for that. If he does not have it. As a home owner I would not want him up on my roof.
God forbid something would happen to him, the home owner is liable.
He may also need a contractors license as well as a business license to be able to get insured.
