It has to do with the scanning in your TV. (The number of lines)
Just live a DVD player. Or your computer monitor. Interlaced (everyother line updated per scan or Non-interlaced every line updated every scan.)

It just means that all the vertical lines are displayed at the same time as opposed to interlaced, where the vertical lines are alternating. With progressive, the pictures are clearer than interlaced.

It is how you accually play the games, that is a progressive scan
