Buy a cheap cable with a headphone jack one end and the red and white RCA connection on the other. The RCA end will plug into your stereo's AUX input or other available slot.

First, you need a wire to connect the two. Put one end of the wire in the "phones" jack of the MP3 Player. Connect the other to an inserter that either is labeled MP3 or does not have a label. For my stereo, I have to turn on AUX and press play. It really depends on the kind of MP3 player and stereo that you have.

either get a cable that goes from the headphone socket of your MP3 player to the line in or mic input of the stereo, or buy an FM transmitter for your MP3 player and tune your radio to match.

I have a cable I bought at Radio Shack that I use to attach my iPod to my stereo through the iPod headphone jack. My stereo has a button to play "auxillary" (in this case the iPod) so I can hit that button and then play iPod through the stereo. It was a cheaper option than buying one of the new stereos designed for iPod.
