someone asked me today what this saying meant...and I didn't know....does anyone know? Also, I can't remember word for word but it was somehing about a woodpecker pecking on a plastic tree. Does that make any sense to anyone? Advise if it does, don't bother if it doesn't.

The saddest thing ever did see was a woodpecker peckin at a plastic tree,, he looked at me and friend say's he,, they ain't as sweet as they use to be!! :)

Well, all that's clear is that the person who is the woodpecker is doing something appropriate in the wrong way or in the wrong place.
Kind of like the dog that barks up the wrong tree.
That's liek saying, "I'm the wrong person to go asking that, or talking to like that." You want something, but you're not dealing with the right person.

I once saw deer try to mount a plastic lawn ornament deer on a tv show.
I've heard of a hummingbird attacking an ornamental hummingbird.
Animals are weird. I think Mr. Pecker will figure it out soon.
