AT&T(Cingular) has an exclusive contract in the United States until summer of 2009. So, if Verizon ever gets it, it'll at least be a couple of years from now. The other issue is that Verizon tries to sell it's own music through its lame VCast system and may not want its users using iTunes. Also, there is no way Apple will allow Verizon to cripple its phone with their ridiculous software overlay that they put on all their phones. If those issues can be solved, then Verizon will get it sometime in 2009...most likely.

As far as I know, only Cingular seems to be carrying it thus far. There have been no announcements for any other carriers to have it for the immediate future.
I would recommend waiting, either 4gb or 8gb is too small a size for movies + music.
Wait until one/two releases of the iPhone and it will have bigger capacity and will probably be less expensive too.

Cingular is the exclusive carrier for the new iPhone due out later this year. Sorry to bust your bubble.

2009-ish. Cingular owns the contract. I hate them, too.
