It would be just like being swallowed by Jupiter or the Sun or any other large mass. Just before the Earth actually reached Jupiter or the Sun or a black hole, it would be torn into shreds by tidal forces.

i did not read any of the other answers so maybe someone already addressed this. it would not "swallow". A wormhole might, if such things actually exist. A black hole is not really a hole, it is a clump of mass very tightly packed, basically near completely motionless energy. imagine you had a snowball the size of a tennis ball at the bottom of a hill, and then a snowball the size of house rolling down the hill. the house sized snow ball would just flatten and absorb the tennis ball size one. however, your question at the top doesn't seem to match the other questions you ask. it seems like you are asking "what would happen if a black hole were to COME NEAR earth". In that case it would probably alter the orbit, swallow stars, and perhaps sent spinning into space.

We would all be long dead before earth reached the point where a black hole would swallow it up and crush it. If earth were to leave it's fixed orbit of the sun, we would all die in days. The pull would be so strong that it would also more than likely pull our atmosphere away first (killing us). Then with no moon either, the tides would not keep the water stable and flood us all (killing us). And then we would freeze with the protection of the atmosphere stripped away (again... killing us!)

If a black hole approached Earth (or vice-versa, it's all relative), life on Earth would end before we reached the rim (the "event horizon") of the black hole. The high-energy radiation emitted from a black hole would sterilize the planet of all life. Once we got closer, the extreme gravity would tear all matter apart. Ultimately, all matter and light would be trapped inside the singularity at the center of the black hole, where gravity is so strong that we can't even understand it with our current set of physical laws.
