The British colonised India, and left in 1948 when after WW2 it became 'UNFASHIONABLE' to own other countries.
Technically Any country part of what is called 'The Commonwealth' is still part of the British empire. Therefore still colonised. India does not have technical Independence. Commonwealth = Empire. All these countries are successful.
The USA is a country that was created by the British and Americans still pay taxes to the Queen of England.
The world today is being 'Assimilated' to Britains ideas of 'Democracy'.

The British had to leave India - they were forced out by the Northerners - fighters remain fighters.
No matter what anyone says, I am right - I am an expert in politics. The freedom fighters in North State became really tough on the British - it was like that from day 1 - Northerners never forgave the British for the horrible murder and violent shooting carried out. So a few members who wanted justice, put a shock of fare to the heart of the British - they used many excuses but the people of India know the British had to run because they were in for a real beating, but cowards run and so they (british) did. It would of been really harmful on the British if they stayed and took the beating they were in for. So the answer is now officially let out on Yahoo.
India has many different powers over the past 3 thousand years. All Indians care about now is there one big happy family (well most are).

India has been colonized many times in its long history; the one you presumably mean is the English colonization of 1750-1948. India gained its independence through many decades of passive and violent resistance, culminating in the successful expulsion of English power led by Gandhi in 1948.

The British and they gained their Independence through their struggles with non violence (styagraha) and their great leader was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (October 2, 1869 – January 30, 1948) was a major political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian independence movement. He was the pioneer and perfector of Satyagraha—the resistance of tyranny through mass civil disobedience, firmly founded upon ahimsa or total non-violence—which led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. Gandhi is commonly known in India and across the world as Mahatma Gandhi (Hindi: महातà¥à¤®à¤¾, mÉhatma ; from Sanskrit, mahÄtmÄ: Great Soul) and as Bapu (in Gujarati, Father)
