Does the NFL direct or limit how color commentators discuss certain players?

Andy Reid is a favored child of the NFL, is this why no commentators are critical of Reids decision to punt the ball with two minutes left effectively giving the game to the Saints?

I have been corrected. Mike Vick is not a rapist (his brother may be). Vick aka Ron Mexico was sued for knowingly passing STD's. This is when he is not busy giving the finger to the fans.

It is the network who oversees color commentary, though analysts are allowed to voice their criticism of players, play calls, etc. The in-game analysts are highly scrutinized, though, by network officials so they usually try to remain neutral and not distract attention away from the game itself with uncalled-for commentary.

With Reid's punt decision, it's hindsight that the Eagles should have not punted. There wasn't much criticism at the time because punting is a wiser call in that particular situation. The Eagles faced a difficult 4th and 15, but still had 3 timeouts left, so they figured they would get the ball back with good field position. Unfortunately, they weren't able to stop Deuce when it counted most.

The NFL analyst won't be around long if they criticize the popular players too much...Witness Bret Favre...He should have retired and should be criticised for not doing so...You won't see that happen by the FOX/CBS broadcasters...They are tied to the hip with the NFL.
