These days, everybody's a victim. "They're taking the Christ out of Christmas!" "Hitler had a terrible childhood." "Terrorists are made by imperialist western oppression." "Alcoholism is a disease." You name it, somebody's a victim of it. It's an ugly development in modern society, and one that may be its downfall. There's some truth in all of these victim outlooks, but it's time for everybody to just get over it and move on, make the world a better place for all.

WOW... I'm not going to call you racist... but I will say you need to educate yourself.
I'm black, and I don't complain about slavery at all. Most of us don't. But, the fact of the matter is that there is still oppression going on to this day. Just because you are blind, does not mean it doesn't exist.
The civil rights movement ended not even 40 years ago. Do you really think that racism was abolished along with it? Sorry, but no... it wasn't. Racism is still very much alive today. Spend a few hours on Yahoo Answers, you'll see for yourself.
Also, I'm a black woman... I do not perm my hair. My hair is completely natural. And, I don't wear contacts either. I do not feel the need to conform to societies standards of beauty. And, there are plenty of other women like me as well.
Maybe you should spend a little more time actually talking to black people to see the struggles we go thru on a daily basis. You seem to have some hatred going on for your own race of people. Which is pretty sad in itself.
True, the black community could do a lot more to uplift themselves. But, its hard to do that if you don't know how. Since you're so high and mighty... why don't you spend some time volunteering at a boys and girls club or something. Do something to help instead of just talking mess. There is enough people who do that.

Yeah, I hear you. My complaint is that slavery is not taught as a vital part of American History when its a fact that without it the USA would not be nearly as rich. It played an IMPORTANT role in our economy and still plays into our racial and social structure...but pointing fingers does not help.
Teach the truth, that's all. Don't say my family didn't own slaves...or whatever...America prospered from slavery, human bondage...not only of blacks but of the Chinese and Mexicans who came after.
BUT, black Americans are in a rut. Too long they've sat festering in ghettos with blinders on or absolute tunnel vision and it really is up to them to change it. Don't look to the white man or the government...they should only be there to make sure the laws are being enforced truthfully...not to hand out.
Malcolm X said blacks in America would be turned into beggars and they have. SLOWLY its changing...but sooooooooooooooo slowly.
Also, black Americans tend to not know that the Chinese were slaves as were the Indians. South America was peppered with slaves from many ethnicities.

Your question doesnt make too much sense, but I'll comment on "hair perming". First of all, white people are not the only ones in the world with straight hair. Native Americans, Asians, Latinos, and Middle Eastern people all have straight hair. How come no one ever says we're trying to be like them? Personally? I love my natural hair. I semi-perm it (barely - and wear it curly most of the time) for manageability, and wear CLEAR contacts so I can see better. Dont generalize.

I don't have to experience something to know that it was horrible and detrimental to today's society.
Did it ever occur to you what hundreds of years of oppression have done to the generations of blacks? The damage has already been done. The European oppressors have set off a nuclear explosion and the fallout will be damaging for many years to come. Violence begotten violence and ignorance begotten ignorance. Europeans are the most violent race on the planet. They are the only ones to drop a nuclear weapon, yet, people of color are seen as the savages.
Yes, black people need to get it together and take advantage of education and work hard to succeed in life for unlike other races, blacks do not typically get a second chance when they mess up. Unfortunately, due to generations of illiteracy, ignorance about proper nutrition and financial management, many blacks lack the wherewithal to improve their lives. Ignorance has got a stronghold on many.

regardless of wether or not you are black or white, you should learn more about why people do say these things, before making snap judgements and spouting of saying anyone is oppressing someone else. I WAS going to answer your question, but then I read what you tacked on the end, and I'm not even gonna waste my time typing something you probably won't even read.
Either way I just urge you to look into this on your own and ask your parents.

well my dad did kind of say the same thing, as in the black community always complains and blames the white community. The thing is, its not either fault, it takes two. yes long ago whites did cause some trouble in the black community, and now I see that blacks take what happened long ago and use it as ammo and excuses to blame white people all the time. I guess we forgot why we went through all those things in the first place, to get freedom. And now we do have it, so we should stop complaining. I think other races have it even worse, such as the indians. my friend was telling me about that since she is of indian background. They are still going through even worse hardships, but you don't see them complaining just as much as we do. I think we should ALL (every race) just chill.

You have somewhat of a valid point. Perms and contacts have nothing to do with your issue. It is up to us to make positive decisions and be good citizens. Those who complain want things handed to them and don't want to work hard. We still are not always given a fair shake because of the color of our skin. There are some people in some races that will always see us as ignorant, lazy, etc. That's what they were taught. Unless all of us wake up, we are sometimes grouped as a whole. You should know your history, but don't use it as an excuse.

Not to be rude, but did you attend an all black school in an all black neighborhood?
This poorly constructed deluge of words is a very good example of why people complain about inequality in education -- which is residue of slavery.
What thought were you attempting to convey with this rant?

You can say the same thing about American Indians and Mexicans. California belonged to Mexico, and the white people took it from them. I think it's the influence of the parent's parents, telling their version of what happened years ago to their children, and passing the chip on their shoulder down to them. I never owned slaves. I would NEVER have taken a baby from their mommy, or hit anyone with anything. I don't think I would have even if I was alive when all this was going on. Indians? Look at what happened to them! Mormons....Quakers.....Not my fault, I wasn't born yet. I'm white and I bleach my hair. Do you hate me for that?
