Things like that generally come from early childhood trauma. You probably picked one up when you were an infant, and started to stick it in your mouth as any infant would, and your mom freaked out and traumatized you. She then proceeded to make SURE you never put another one in your mouth, and the lesson is still with you today on a subconscious level.
Childhood trauma can be serious, and impair the way we relate to the world all our lives, but maybe slugophobia isn't such a bad thing, once you understand it. Best of luck.

Typically a phobia is caused by a traumatic incident that had a profound effect on you mentally. For example, I almost drowned in the ocean when I was about 5, and I'm afraid of deep water still today. If I stand on the deck of a pool where I know the water would be deeper than I am tall, I start to get dizzy and anxious. Perhaps when you were a small child you fell down into some plants and got a bunch of slugs on you.

Conditioning probably our parental figures inadvertantly put their fears into us.
As a parent you can become terrified of your child falling etc because they initially have absolutely no fear. So you drum it into their heads but if you take it too far the child may become completely phobic of heights.
It's all about a subconscious association in the mind to a forgotten memory. It could be anything seeing a bee sting a character in a cartoon at the age of 1 could lead to a lifetime of phobia.
This often why regressive psycotherapy is utilised to unravel the phobia's etc.
Thats just my view i'm not really a psycologist so feel free to tell me i'm wrong.

The word.."drip" I can't stand it and I don't know why...Slugs are pretty nasty, but harmless, unless you're a tomato plant! haha. Usually phobias come from tramatizing events, something frmo your childhood that maybe you don't remember?

Tags. I hate 'em! I can NOT have them on any of my clothes. I rip them off pillows, clothes, everything! Even (gasp!) the mattress! I will FREAK OUT if a tag touches me. I don't even like to look at them. Anyone else have this phobia?
